New Year, New Ideas.
I've begun brainstorming for the Super issue, and so far some of the ideas are just that. In terms of Fashion spreads I was thinking of the following:
Superhero/Comic Tale
Very Literal, yet very high fashion. The spread would follow some imaginary superhero as she fights a villain and saves her town. The looks would be very neon-superhero inspired and have some throwbacks to the eighties.
Super City DC
As a DC resident I can attest to the fact that town is reasonably fashionable and features every look under the sun from the power suit on Capitol Hill, to the hippie look on U Street. For this spread I envisioned hitting some important DC landmarks and hotspots, and displaying some of the upcoming seasons trends.
Alter Ego
When I think of superheroes I instantly think of their Alter egos. This spread would take on the sort of dual identity in a Clark Kent/Superman kind of way, with the models very laid back and natural on one page, and on the next supercharged and high-fashion sporting extreme makeup and couture looks.
Lastly I want to do a spread that's either a homage to the super decade that was the eighties or a look into the future. A post fashion apocalypse future.
Profiles
The profiles are what really excites me. This issue is about highlighting and celebrating Super Celebrities as well as everyday people who truly are heroes. I'm gonna jump right into it, and divulge what I'm most excited about. The Big Six. Back in the heyday of Supermodels in the 90's these girls - Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangilista and Kate Moss were the cream of the crop. These girls were super! I want to feature them in sort of then/now way because all of these girls are still major forces in the industry.
And even though she's not apart of the six, Tyra Banks is super. She's refined what a model can be, and through her talk show and other ventures, she empowers young girls and women. A superhero indeed.
The Final Front on the Supermodel side is going to be finding that next supermodel. Personally, I've had enough of actresses and other entertainers taking the covers and think a model should take back that spot. I want to profile some of the girls who are close to taking that title.
For Profiles in Music I have Lady GaGa (of course) and Christina Aguliera. Names in Fashion (so far) include Marc Jacobs and Kelly Cutrone. I want to feature this generations biggest designers as well as the fashion bloggers and editors who are changing up and and impacting the world of fashion.
On the political front, so far I've deiced on Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emmanuel. I'm leaning in the direction of choosing a female senator to join that trio.
For entertainment, Meryl Streep is a definite. Also, Sandra Bullock's dramatic turn in the Blind Side has further shown her super abilities, and I really want to feature her. There are many young faces that I'm thinking of, but right about now Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams have my eye. Oprah Winfrey is a Superwoman and hands down must be in this issue. I also want to talk about Katie Couric and Duane Sawyer two amazing women who have stepped into big jobs and keeping up with the boys.
Everyday Heroes
Beyond Glorifying celebrities and those who already have tons of attention it is important and necessary that this issue takes honors the real heroes who really are saving the world.
There are still a lot more final decisions to be made, and nothing is in stone yet. More opinions and ideas are always welcome.
For this to be a first brainstorming session, I am beyond pleased, and I think this issue will be super indeed.
